Protein Skimmers

In aquaculture, Protein Skimmers / Fractionators are essential water-treatment devices designed to remove dissolved organic compounds and fine particulates, and they are known by several names depending on their design or application. Common terms include foam fractionator, protein skimmer, and foam skimmer, all highlighting the unit’s ability to create foam that traps and exports organic waste. They may also be referred to as DOC removers (dissolved organic carbon removers) or organic waste removers, emphasizing their role in improving water clarity and quality. In systems that incorporate ozone, they are often called ozone fractionators, while names like air stripping column or bubble fractionator describe the gas-exchange process that makes them effective. Even the less precise term surface skimmer is sometimes used in the field. Regardless of the name, all these terms describe the same fundamental technology used to maintain healthier, more stable aquatic environments.
