Create Optimal Growing Conditions

Photobioreactors are devices used to cultivate algae and cyanobacteria in a controlled environment. These microorganisms are used in a range of industries including fish farming. At Pure Aquatics, we offer a range of photobioreactors designed specifically for the aquaculture industry. From our headquarters in Port Macquarie, we serve customers all over the Mid North Coast, throughout Australia and all over the world.

One of the key advantages of using photobioreactors in fish farming is they provide a reliable source of food for fish. Algae and cyanobacteria are nutrient-rich and can be used to supplement or replace traditional fish feed. This can help to reduce the cost of feeding fish, as well as the environmental impact of using fishmeal and other common feed sources.

ALGAE PHOTOBIOREACTORS

Being able to produce clean algae reliably is a serious problem for many shellfish, shrimp, and marine finfish hatcheries. This causes hatchery operators to weigh this loss in revenue alongside the cost of additional floorspace and staff, due to traditional low-density algae production using significant floorspace and labour, requiring staff to regularly clean and inoculate multiple vessels.

Contaminated algae can also crash algae cultures, causing production to become unreliable leading to the animals becoming underfed or starving. Pathogens in algae cultures also increase mortality rates or will kill off entire cohorts. In addition to this, animals that live through early infections will often have lower growth rates, lower FCR & yield and ultimately, lower margins for hatcheries and grow outs. The solution to this problem is by using automated self-cleaning photobioreactors for biosecure on-site production.
Our compact photobioreactors or PBRs for short, allow the easy and continuous production of culture clean algae on-site and require a fraction of the floorspace, labour and water.

Our PBRs also produce more algae per square foot than any other traditional method, for example, when compared to traditional culture, our 1250L PBR can produce as much as a 12,000 L (30 x 400 L) continuous bag system or a 75,000L batch system.
